Marina Manager


Penticton Yacht Club is a Non-Profit Society that promotes boating among members of its Society, operates facilities designated for watercraft moorage, clubhouse, retail store and maintenance facilities on Okanagan Lake in the City of Penticton.

Under the direction of the Board of Directors and Commodore, the Marina Manager is primarily responsible for the safe and efficient management of PYC's operations and facilities as well as reception & administrative services to members. The Marina Manager is responsible to ensure a wide variety of administrative tasks are efficiently carried out to ensure members enjoy all the Club's programs and services in a timely, friendly and professional manner. The Marina Manager gives leadership to the development and implementation of the annual Moorage & Facilities plan and budget. Given the specialized and diverse nature of services to members, the Marina Manager must work cooperatively with the Board of Directors and all other members of the team to achieve a professional, courteous and seamless level of service to the membership of the PYC.

Core Role:

Under the direction of the Board of Directors, the Marina Manager is responsible, with the assistance of an administration and service team:

- Ensure prompt and courteous service is provided to all members in person, on the phone or through automated systems;
- Monitor the maintenance of member's records and PYC's administrative & financial files in relationship to membership services;

- Manage administrative support activities for a wide variety of PYC programs such as Youth & Education, membership and club event planning;

- Coordinate internal and external communications through the website, newsletters and other sources;

- Develop and implement department budgets and operational plans in consultation with the appropriate Board members;

- Monitor and maintain the moorage (within the basin and on the lakes), Pump out Station and clubhouse facilities;

- Ensure the facilities are safe and secure and comply with the policies and procedures outlined in the PYC Policy & Procedures Manual and Moorage Regulations;

- Supervise and train staff and volunteer workers in the repair and maintenance of the moorage and Clubhouse facilities;

- Oversee the allocation and auditing of moorage to the PYC membership by providing direction and support to the Board of Directors with respect to moorage administration;

- Provide supervisory and administrative oversight and support to PYC Service staff that work in Marina Office, Gas Dock, Clubhouse, Maintenance Staff;

- Respond to member inquires and resolve conflicts;

- Participate in and support a wide range of club activities and special events as a member of various organizing committees and groups;

- Observe all club policies in dealing with the membership and ensure that all House Rules and By-laws are respected and complied with;

- On request, represent the Club with outside organizations, contractors and levels of government, including serving as the primary spokesperson when appropriate.

Candidate Profile:

Previous work experience in related service industry.

Post secondary degree/diploma (Business Commerce and/or Hospitality) or balance of education and work experience.

Knowledge of theories, principles and practices of human resource, financial and material resources management;

Ability to use a variety of technology to work effectively with PYCs computerized financial and administrative systems, including Word, Excel, E-mail and other commonly used applications and technologies;

Management of non-profit volunteer-based clubs and organizations, restaurant and bar services, marina services or similar customer service businesses is required.

Must possess strong Administrative skills and excel in Client Service Orientation.
Ability to work in a team environment, is self-driven with initiative and vision.

Salary negotiable and commiserate with experience and background.
